Project "Tahiti" - NEW v3 DATABASE and 68.000+ reasons to take a look and listen!
We are developing a new and improved version of the TANGO-DJ.AT DATABASE. This project is called "Tahiti". It is enabled by the great effort of two developers who are working together with me for almost a year now. So a big thank you goes to DJ Lihui Zhao from Canada and DJ "Carlos Di Sarli" from France who made project Tahiti possible!
The new database version is not finished yet, but the three most important and outstanding new features have been implemented. While testing we make them available to the public for free.
- Pre-listening possibility for ALL 68.000+ recordings in the DB!
- Thumbnails of most cover arts
- Temporary FLAC download option for ALL 68.000+ recordings!
Every record now has a play button. The soundsample is put together from two pieces of the original track (one part from the beginning and one part starting from the middle) and lasts for 90 seconds in most cases. The soundsample is encoded with the LAME mp3 codec using a high quality VBR setting of 190kbps in average.
You may know pre-listen any of the 68.000+ records of our database. By this you have direct access to one of the largest tango music archives. To my knowledge this is unique world wide.
Thumbnails of cover arts
For most albums a thumbnail of the cover art is shown next to the play button. We have scanned the complete booklets and covers of CDs and LPs, including the label of the records itself. Especially the production of the LP cover arts is time consuming and complicated. A small photo studio has to be set up in order to take a picture of the LP cover arts. The pictures then undergo a post-production process. DJ Theo Chatzipetros did amazing work in order to improve the quality of the photos in post-production. big thank you for that as well!
The new cover art viewer showing the complete cover art and booklet scans in 800x800px resolution will be made available to our TANGO-DJ.AT members very soon! You will be able to browse through the complete CD booklet, or LP cover arts by clicking on the cover art thumbnail.
Download option for all 68.000+ recordings
For a limited time there is a download option for all 68.000+ recordings of our music archive available. You may look up basically any track you are looking for a long time and click the pre-listening button. At the end of the soundsample a download option will be offered to you. You can download and save the track in lossless quality as a FLAC file. Pay as you wish by making a donation to TANGO-DJ.AT via paypal.
In addition to the features mentioned above we improved the old version also by
- date format changed to comply with the international date format ISO 8601
- added column for media showing various media formats as CD / LP / DG
- adding more and more information about composer (music) and author (lyrics)
- added column for disc/catalog numbers and matriz numbers
- added column sowhing the last modification date and time of every DB entry
- added column for recommended tracks indicating special tracks or versions
- new layout for DB-news, search forms and DB-status

Since developing and maintaining the database takes more effort than a regular full time job some of the features can be made available to supporting members only.
TANGO-DJ.AT members will have unlimited access to the database and all of it's features. In addition to that we are going to offer a database membership for less subscription fee as a smaller version of the full membership. With the database membership you help to maintain our database and you benefit from unlimited access to the database and all of its features as well.
However the full metadata of 68.000+ tracks will remain accessable for the tango community and the public for free.
If you are interested in becoming a TANGO-DJ.AT member please visit our membership subscription page.
